An Interview of Gerta Lowe's friend, Anna, by Micah Lee

So, I'm interviewing Anna for my writing class. I asked Anna five questions about her memory of events as recorded in the book A Night Divided. Anna was Gerta's "friend," but for half of the book, Anna betrayed Gerta. At least, this is how it came across to the readers.

Here are my questions:

Q: Was it worth the risk to escape?
A: As long as I made it alive, I guess so.

Q: Would you risk everything to be free?
A: No! I would rather be thankful for what I had rather than risking my life to be free.

Q: How was your relationship with Gerta?
A: It was going downhill after Peter died, but we started to regain our friendship.

Q: Did you think something was going on when Gerta didn't want you to help her with the garden? What did you think about Gerta doing her laundry in the muddy water of the pond that was next to the garden?
A: I became suspicious. Her ideas were absurd. What she was doing did not make complete sense to me.

Q: Did your life change after your successful escape?
A: Of course! West Berlin is much different. We have much more freedom in West Berlin than we did in East Berlin.
